Pumpkin Patch Round -up

26 Oct

Have you ever been to a pumpkin patch??

I went for the first time this last weekend. We wanted to bring my little nephew to pick out a pumpkin to decorate for Halloween. I’ve only seen pumpkin patches in pictures or on TV. So this was my expectation…

Well, let me tell you… in Florida, there is very little hay and the weather is not yet chilly. So picking out a pumpkin from the endless rows of dirt under the Floridian sun was not as enjoyable as I would imagine it would be.

I picked out a little one for my nephew and a larger one for my BIL to carve. I carved my first and only pumpkin 20 yrs ago and I am not looking forward to doing it again. So good luck Wichi!!!!!!

So to make this post more enjoyable to all of you… Let me share some of my favorite pumpkin recipes.

    Oh what a shame!
Same as the first commenter, where I am in Michigan the pumpkin patches are just as you had hoped yours would be. My favorite is an old man known here as “The Pumpkin Man” and everything on his farm is orange. Barn, sheds, tractors etc.
He has thousands of pumpkins and thousands of other squashes all over in and in front of the orange barn, plus hay wagons, stands with Indian corn, fresh honey, cornstalks for decorating and pie pumpkins.
He is next to another farm stand that has apples, fresh pumpkin donuts and hot cider as well as late-season veggies and fruits.
I wish I could give you the experience I am lucky enough to get several times a year.
    Hope you get too someday!
Pumpkin/squashes are some of my favorite foods, and I can’t get enough. Yum!
Thanks for the recipes, I’ve made the mac and cheese and keep meaning to make a risotto.
Hope you get the real experience someday!

Además de las opciones que nos ofrecen.. que se ven deliciosas.. oye padre las fotos…. me encanto especialmente la de las calabazas en línea… la profunidad de campo, que aquí se aplica literalmente, le da un efecto super…

Butternut squash mac and cheese sounds delicious, what a great way to include veggies for the kids that don’t like them. This is a great healthy alternative.

Wow, lindas fotos, creo que yo me uno a ti, eso de esculpir calabazas no es lo mio, pero las recetas se ven increibles.

I’ve never made any pumpkin recipe with a fresh pumpkin because I find it intimidating but I might have to go ahead and try. I don’t know why I never thought to add squash/pumpkin to polenta. I LOVE polenta. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve only eaten calabaza w/olive oil, in stews OR as breads and pies- all of which I LOVE. Soooo I’m thinking I’m going to love your recipes too; thanks for sharing! BB2U

The roasted pumpkin salad looks yummy!

All those dishes look delicious. You remind me of my mom, she never gets pumpkins for carving or decorations, she buys them to eat them.
