Home Remedies – Honey, Lime, Aloe and Onion to relieve coughs

11 Jul

I prefer to cure myself using home remedies than using a bunch of chemical medications…… I haven’t even taken a Tylenol to relieve a headache in over 15 years.

And I have mentioned you how I mix together honey, lime juice and aloe to create a syrup to help me relieve my cold symptoms.

So, if you develop a cough, just add a ¼ piece of small onion to the mix. The taste is more pungent, but juts drink it like you drink a medicine. According to some internet research I did recently, onions are effective against many bacteria and early American settlers used them to treat colds, coughs, and asthma. Also, the Chinese used them to treat coughs and breathing problems. Even the World Health Organization recognized onions for providing relief in the treatment of coughs and colds, asthma and bronchitis.

All those people together can’t be all wrong… so have your onion “jarabe” the next time you’re feeling under the weather.

COUGH HOME REMEDY

1/2 cup honey

the inside clear gel of an aloe vera leaf

the juice of 2 limes

¼ piece of a small onion

1. Mix all the ingredients in a blender.

2. Drink about a 2 tablespoon measure every hour or so… or as often as you want.

It tastes good, so I would not blame you if you want to drink it for the taste as much as your desire to feel better.

Home Remedies – Chamomile and Linden Tea to help you sleep

30 Apr

There used to be a time when I had difficulty falling asleep. Me, the person that all she needs to fall asleep is  to be sleepy. I was so stressed out, so unhappy about my work and living situation that at night I was not able to close my eyes at all. And that brought other issues… I would fall asleep so late at night, that in the mornings I would not want to wake up at the time I needed. It was a very tough time for me…

But I learned about using herbal remedies to help my situation. I started making a ritual every night to “program my brain” to get into sleepy mode. And part of that ritual was to drink a hot mug of chamomile and linden teas with honey before going to bed.

Chamomile and linden, both, have calming properties. They help you ease the tensions and promote deep, healthy sleeping.

Who told me about this?? Not sure… but I am sure it works. I once gave my friend Ana a mug of chamomile/linden tea before a big meeting we had. She was super stressed and needed to calm down to be able to deliver the presentationbetter. After drinking it, she told me she felt so relaxed, she couldn’t even get up from her chair during the meeting.

Have you tried drinking chamomile or linden teas before?? What has been your experience?? Any other natural remedies to help your sleep?? Please share it with us all…

Home Remedies – Pure Lime Juice to stop Nausea and Vomiting

23 Apr

Sorry that we’re talking about these unsightly symptoms… but if we like to eat, sometimes, unfortunately we’ll eat something that does not agrees with us. It’s life…

I have found that drinking the pure juice of 1-2 limes when I have nausea helps ease the stomach in such a way that it settles in a little while. This is partly the reason why I always like to have limes and lemons in my kitchen.

Lemons and limes are acidic in the outside world… but when ingested, they alkalinize the blood and eases any upset stomach symptom. I am no scientist, but I have used this remedy many more times than I would like to admit. And it works. I squeeze the juice out of the fruit and drink it like a shot – all at once.

Lime juice is also good to stop diarrhea. If by any chance you have “the runs” and they won’t stop… try drinking a shot of lime juice to see if you feel better. I have a friend that took a colon cleansing tea… and afterwards she would not stop going to the bathroom. She was getting worried and drank some lime juice and “the runs” stopped. It’s an amazing remedy…

Hope you never have to use it. But if you do, now you know a natural way, right??

Home Remedies – Water for Headaches

4 Jan

It’s been over 14 years since I’ve taken any analgesics to take care of a headache.

When I started to attend our Yoga Center, I learned, or developed an awareness, of how many side effects chemical medicines have. They “cure” one thing, but damage 10 others.

So for many years now I have subscribed to the idea of using natural remedies as much as possible to treat the cause of my illness or discomfort versus just tending to the symptom. Most traditional medicine today is more concerned about treating the symptom that reaching to the root of the problem.

Let’s take headaches for example… I bet many of you pop up a few Tylenols or Advils anytime you feel a headache coming in. I’m not talking about migraines or anything more severe. I am talking about common everyday headache, possibly at 4PM, after a tough meeting or during the traffic jam while you’re trying to reach home.

I have experienced that most of the headaches I experienced where mainly due to DEHYDRATION. The water I was taking with the Tylenol, not the pills themselves, were the solution to what I was having. Just drinking a few glasses of water whenever you might feel you’re coming on with a headache might save you from taking many, many pills over the course of your lifetime.

Try it… and if it works, just try to avoid the headache all together by drinking more water every day.

Celery Lime Juice

15 Jun

If you thought Celery Pineapple juice was out there… let me give you another one.

Celery juice sound weird to many people, but it’s really, really good. It has many beneficial properties, and according to Hippocrates, the father of medicine, it “calms the nerve”… which is probably why was given to me as a treatment. Among its benefits are:

1. Eating celery will reduce high blood pressure and give the effect of calmness.

2. Celery clears uric acid from painful joints and may help the treatment of arthritis and rheumatic problems.

3. Celery also helps the kidney an acts an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

Even with all its benefits, celery could be a bit strong for certain people, so I was recommended to take it with lemon or lime to ease it into your system.

My sister was skeptical at first, and even though I don’t think she’ll be making this anytime soon… but I believe she was pleasantly surprised when I gave it to try. I enjoy a glass of this everyday now as part of a treatment, but I believe it will be part of my juice repertoire from now on.

CELERY LIME JUICE

1 stalk of celery, chopped finely
The juice of ½ a lime
1 cup of cold water
Drizzle of agave nectar or honey
Ice cube – optional

  2. Strain the juice using a fine mesh sieve to get rid of all the pulp.
